#3 Beirut @ Viafarini
Seasonal Selections shares highlights from Beirut's program through filmic contributions by artists and filmmakers that manifested through exhibitions and screenings from October 2012 to May 2013, in Cairo.
Beirut is an art initiative and exhibition space founded in Cairo in May 2012, grounded on the belief that change first needs to be imagined in order to be achieved. The year at Beirut is conceived in three seasons, based on and articulated through interrelated questions. Season One (10 October 2012–14 January 2013) examined labour in the loves and lives of images, and drew on a drawing’s desire. Season Two (7 February–6 April 2013) tested the relationship between magic, power and resistance and their connection to the modern State, whilst reflecting on notions of history and its revision, collective memory and national identity. Season Three (27 April - 30 June 2013) is dedicated to the colossal question of What is an Institution? and what it means to institute, through the space(s) of art, language and the law.
