| Careof and Viafarini, on initiative of Gabi Scardi, will present in Milan, from March 24 until April 18 2009, The Mobile Archive, a video art and digital media archive, based in Holon, Israel. The exhibition consists of a selection of videos projected in both Careof and Viafarini art spaces. The public will also be invited to freely consult the archive as if it were a library, so that visitors will be able to create their own video program. The selection of videos to be projected will change weekly. The program will be integrated with lectures held by artists and relevant personalities of the Israeli cultural scenario. The first lecture will take place at DOCVA, and will be held by the director of the Israeli Center for Digital Art, Galit Eilat. On Monday March 30th, at 6:00 pm, Visual Arts Professor Antonio Somaini, will have a conversation with Israeli artist Roee Rosen (Rehovot 1963). The Mobile Archive is a project started in March 2007 by the Israeli Center for Digital Art, which currently consists of more than 1500 video and multimedia works. The Milanese exhibition will represent an important chance to enrich the collection with a series of video by Italian artists, selected from DOCVA archive. At the end of its exhibitional tour the archive will return to Holon. The Mobile Archive has three founding principles: _ Opening of the entire archive to the public at large: each visitor will be given the opportunity to select materials s/he wishes to view. The archive will be presented in a video library format, where each visitor will be able to choose freely from hundreds of existing video works, and view the select pieces under gallery viewing conditions. _Presentation of video programs curated by the Israeli Center for Digital Art, and by curators, artists, art students, and others. Some of the programs have already been presented several times; others will make their debut here. _Up to 25 selected works by the host organization will be added to the original collection and by the end of the tour the expanded archive will return to Holon. Thus far, The Mobile Archive has been exhibited internationally at The Kunstverein in Hamburg,Germany; WYSPA Institute of Art in Gdansk, Poland; WHW's Gallery Nova in Zagreb, Croatia, The Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland, and IUAV University in Venice. Galit Eilat is the Founding Director of The Israeli Center for Digital Art. She is Co-Editor in Chief of Maarav – an online arts and culture magazine, as well as a Professor of video art. Working internationally, she has most recently received a 'Best Art Practices; International Award for Young Curators' in 2007”. Gabi Scardi is one of the curators at MAXXI–Italian National Museum for XXIth century art, Rome, she curates, in collaboration with Roberto Pinto, the CECAC-European Course fort Contemporary Art Curators, organized by Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como and by the Province of Milan, where she is currently in charge as scientific adviser. She has been curator at DOCVA archive. She currently teaches at Università Cattolica, Domus Academy, Milan, TSM – Trento School of Management, Trento. She collaborates with the sunday edition of Il Sole 24 Ore and with other national and international headings. She realized many contributions for catalogs and publications. |
