Participation in No Soul For Sale: A Festival of Independents

As crowning achievement of its 20 years long activities for the promotion of the most experimental artistic research, Viafarini has been invited to take part in both editions of No Soul for Sale: A Festival of Independents. The initiative, conceived in 2009 by Cecilia Alemani, Maurizio Cattelan and Massimiliano Gioni, represent a chance to promote on the international scene the activities of the most creative and representative non profit indipendent spaces from all over the world.
The first edition took place in New York in the former Dia Art Foundation venue, as part of the activities promoted by X Initiative.
In 2010 Viafarini has been invited to the second edition, organised in the Turbine Hall space as part of the celebrations for Tate Modern tenth anniversary. On this occasion Viafarini presented the book Souvenir d'Italie: A Nonprofit Art Story collecting a series of documentations about Viafarini's activities as well as aiming at conveying insights about the evolution of the Italian artistic scenario over the last 20 years, considered from the point of view of the first Italian non profit organization.
At the Tate Modern Viafarini choise to interpret itself through the ambient-installation China Purple, by Italian artist Flavio Favelli, comnceived as a showcase in which place a series of of testimonies realized by some of the artists who exhibited at Viafarini in its twenty years history: Gianni Caravaggio, Maurizio Cattelan, Martin Creed, Jimmie Durham, Linda Fregni Nagler, Paolo Gonzato, Kim Jones, Armin Linke, Margherita Manzelli, Eva Marisaldi, Liliana Moro, Yoshua Okon, Alessandro Pessoli, Tobias Rehberger, Dragana Sapanjos, Sissi, Santo Tolone and Nico Vascellari.
