Memorie dal vivo

by Silvia Mantellini Faieta and Catherine Barnabé

Memorie dal Vivo is a moment of encounter between the artistic research of Silvia Mantellini Faieta and the curatorial research of Catherine Barnabé. While maintaining an individual character, the two practices open up to dynamics of sharing and collectivity; they arise from personal memories, opening up to the other and vice versa.
Both participate in the idea of the body as a container of thought, of memories, necessary to be present in our here and now.

On April 15, 2022, VIR Viafarini-in-residence, will host, at 5.30 pm, the performance Vecchio Amore by Silvia Mantellini Faieta, which will take place in the internal courtyard of Via Farini 35. The writing action present in the performance intends to return the memory of a lived experience and the overcoming of the memory itself.
At 6.00 pm, in the shared studios of Viafarini, Ricordi di spazio espaces de passage will follow. A restitution of Catherine Barnabé's research and curatorial project, carried out during the period of residence at VIR, in collaboration with the artists known during the journey: one exchange of image, word and memory, individual and collective.
Catherine Barnabé thanks Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for supporting her research.

"The poet does not give me the past of his image, yet it immediately has its roots in me."
Bachelard Gaston, The poetics of space, 1957

If there is a connection between us and the other, this is certainly influenced by collective and biological memory, by the idea we have of ourselves, of the other and of the space in which we live.
Words and images make our way of thinking shareable, they help us to understand and dialogue, to be together. Each word and each image, however, retain a psychological character in the individual, each word and each image, adding up, gives shape to our experiences. They create a memory in each of us: the word 'home', for example, can give life to many memories, arouse different emotions in the people who listen to it.
