Gabriel Hensche, Looking at a Zebra

30 ottobre 2018

VIR presents recent works by German artist Gabriel Hensche. The installation and video pieces he made during the VIR residency examine the relationship between digital and emotional and how technology affects our imagination.
With Milan-based programmer Biancamaria Mori, Hensche trained an algorithm in contemporary art, investigating the question of what kind of Artificial Intelligence emerges if it learns from art only. The result will be part of an installation that will be shown along with a video that investigates the connection between technology and a long-distance relationship; a network of cup-telephones; and a computer-generated face of the artist's father, who is unknown to him, based on a written description by his mother, which will be installed in VIR’s artist apartment – Hensche’s Milanese home throughout his two-month residency.

Gabriel Hensche (1986, Dresden), studied Fine Arts in Stuttgart (with Christian Jankowski) and Tel Aviv (MFA). His moving image, performance, and installation pieces were supported and shown by different cultural organizations, amongst them: Kunst-Werke Berlin (DE), Project Anywhere (US), B-Tour Festival (DE, SRB), Nida Art Colony (LT) Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (FR), Württembergischer Kunstverein (DE), Art Cube Jerusalem (IL), Sinopale (TR), Brooklyn Film Festival (US), Slamdance Film Festival (US) and Manifesta 11, Cabaret der Künstler (CH).

Gabriel Hensche residency has been made possible by international artist exchange program by Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg.
Viafarini has been recognized of Regional Interest by Lombardy Region. With the contribution of Lombardy Region.
